Items to remove from the property
Pressurised aerosols (deodorant, hairspray, spray paint), butane lighters, candles, vinyl records, certain unstable medications (check labels — most are fine), wax-sealed cosmetics, live plants, fresh flowers, and any chocolate or perishables you want to keep edible. Pets must leave for the day, including fish — drop the tank temperature isn't safe.
Items to leave exactly where they are
Beds, mattresses, sofas, cushions, soft toys, books, electronics (TVs, laptops, games consoles are all fine), clothes in wardrobes and drawers, framed pictures, and shoes. Counter-intuitive but important: do NOT bag and remove infested bedding before we arrive — bagging spreads the infestation to wherever you store the bag. Leave it on the bed. We want every bug exactly where it has been hiding.
Things that genuinely help
Pull beds and sofas 30cm away from walls so heat can circulate behind them. Open wardrobe and drawer fronts. Move clothes off the floor onto hangers. Empty the bedside tables onto the bed. Take down any heavy wall art that would trap heat behind it. If you can vacuum harbourage points (mattress seams, skirting joints) the day before, do — it gives our heat a head start.
The night before — sleep, don't run
Counter-intuitive again: keep sleeping in the infested bed until treatment morning. Moving to the sofa, or to a guest room, just gives the bugs a second feeding ground and a second harbourage zone, which means more rooms need treating. Stay where you are, wear long pyjamas, and we'll end it for you tomorrow.
FAQs
Do I need to wash all my clothes?
No. Heat treatment treats clothes in your wardrobes and drawers. The only wash load is whatever you've worn or used in the last 24 hours, on a 60°C cycle or in a tumble dryer for 30 minutes.
Can I stay in the property during treatment?
No — for safety reasons everyone (including pets) must be out for the heat-up, hold and cool-down. We give you an exact return time.
